La durata della vita utile del lampione a LED è prevista per oltre 20 anni, il che significa che i consigli pagheranno molto meno sia per la manutenzione che per l'energia.
Quando una luce standard su una strada suburbana fallisce e non può essere riparata, sarà sostituita da un LED super efficiente. Una prova di 18 mesi di lampioni a LED, effettuata dal distributore statale di elettricità Ausgrid, ha trovato la tecnologia a energia elettrica ridotta utilizzare fino al 70%.
La prova di 62 luci in otto località a Sydney e nella costa centrale ha anche scoperto che i residenti preferivano l'emissione luminosa dei lampioni a LED.
